Sydney performer and comedian, Brent Thorpe, has died at the age of 61. The news was shared in a Facebook post by his husband, Travis De Jonk, and reported on 2 February.

In the post, De Jonk wrote: “On 6 January 2026, I lost the love of my life, Brent Thorpe,” and described him as “my dearly loved and devoted husband.”

Thorpe was an emerging voice in LGBTQIA+ comedy. His material was personal and political, acknowledging his desire not to grow older gracefully, and calling out the double standards that still negatively impact LGBTQIA+ lives in a straight world. He performed Daddy and later Daddy, Don’t Drop The Soap!, a show that mixed storytelling, nightlife references, and LGBTQIA+ community history.

He also hosted ceremonies for Sydney leather events.

Tributes are coming in, with a memorial planned.

Tributes have been shared across the LGBTQIA+ community, including from performers and venues who worked with him. Palms on Oxford has said a memorial will be held at a later date.
