Cooper Koch Eyes Iconic Role In Luca Guadagnino’s American Psycho Remake

Christian Bale in American Psycho (Lionsgate) and Coope Koch in Monsters (Netflix)

Cooper Koch is ready to dive into the world of Patrick Bateman, the infamous character from Bret Easton Ellis’ novel American Psycho. Lionsgate is developing a fresh take on American Psycho, with acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino at the helm and Scott Z Burns writing the script. This new project promises a unique interpretation, not a remake of the 2000 film starring Christian Bale.

The original novel, published in 1991, follows Patrick Bateman, a wealthy investment banker living a double life as a serial killer. While this new film is still in early development, it has already caught the attention of fans and rising stars like Cooper Koch.

“I Could Do Patrick Bateman”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Koch expressed his interest in playing the complex role. “I think I could do Patrick Bateman,” he shared. “I haven’t played a serial killer yet. I think I could do it.”

Though casting decisions are yet to be made, Koch has shown he has the talent for such a challenging role. Recently, he impressed audiences in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menéndez Story, where he portrayed Erik Menéndez alongside Nicholas Alexander Chavez as Lyle.

A Performance to Remember

Despite some controversy surrounding the series, Koch’s performance in episode five, titled The Hurt Man was widely praised. The episode featured an intense single-shot scene that showcased his emotional depth and acting prowess. Fans took to social media to commend his work, with one user writing: “The masterclass performance Cooper Koch gave in the 30+ minute single take scene in episode 5. We better see him win an Emmy (and Golden Globe).”

In an interview with The Wrap, Koch discussed his preparation for this demanding role. “I read it every day leading up to [filming]. I had this groove for a long time… I really tried to get all of those memories to be so real and specific for me so that when I recounted them, they would evoke an emotional response,” he explained.
