From Middle-earth to the Dancefloor

According to the Daily Mail, McKellen was observed busting a move on the dancefloor and “soaking up the party atmosphere” at Roast, a nightclub marketed as “London’s Beefiest Club Night.” The venue boasts five floors, 10 DJs, and a darkroom.

McKellen, who came out as gay in 1988 at the age of 48, has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights. In a 2023 interview with Variety, he shared that after coming out, “almost overnight everything in my life changed for the better.” He also spoke about the damage caused by lying about one’s identity and feeling ashamed, especially during a time when it was illegal for him to have sex with a man.

The actor’s night out at the gay club serves as a reminder that it’s never too late to embrace one’s true self and live life to the fullest.

McKellen’s journey from growing up in a time when his sexuality was criminalised to openly enjoying a night out at a gay club is a testament to the progress made by the LGBTQIA+ community and the importance of living authentically.
