President Joe Biden has once again shown his support for the LGBTQIA+ community by declaring June as Pride Month. This is the third year in a row that Biden has recognised Pride Month since becoming president.

His predecessor, Donald Trump, did not do this during his time in office.

In his announcement, Biden praised the LGBTQIA+ community for their bravery and important contributions to American society. He talked about the progress made towards equality and inclusion but also said more work needs to be done to support LGBTQIA+ rights in the US and around the world.

“We celebrate the extraordinary courage and contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community”

The announcement also mentioned the Stonewall Uprising of 1969, which helped start the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement. Biden pointed out the many ways LGBTQIA+ people make America better, from teaching and entertaining to sports, arts, science, and serving the country.

The Biden administration has made notable strides in advancing LGBTQIA+ equality, including signing the Respect for Marriage Act, allowing transgender people to serve openly in the military, and extending anti-discrimination protections.
