Jennifer Lawrence Savage Roast at ‘Gay’ Pence Shocks GLAAD Gala
At the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday, Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence landed a jaw-dropping jab at former VP Mike Pence. The actress joked that she once fell for a gay man before realising “conversion therapy doesn’t work”. Then she aired, “Did you hear me, Mike Pence? Conversion therapy is not real – even though you think it worked on you.”
Lawrence didn’t stop there, cackling that Pence was in New York to accept “a Kid’s Choice Award for weirdest d**k”. She admitted not writing that zinger herself before presenting an award to singer Orville Peck.
The event got political again when an anti-Israel protester disrupted host Ross Matthews. “GLAAD is complicit in genocide,” the transgender activist shouted before being removed. Matthews awkwardly moved on, stating, “We have to fight for everyone’s rights.”
This isn’t Lawrence’s first time provoking conservative ire. In 2017, she blamed hurricanes on “Mother Nature’s rage” over Trump’s election and climate stance. She’s also shared how her left-leaning views caused a family rift, declaring, “Politics are killing people.”
A Polarizing Figure
While celebrated by many in Hollywood, Lawrence’s brash demeanour and outspoken progressive views have also sparked backlash. Her latest Pence punchline is sure to ignite more heated debate around respect, humour, and boundaries when it comes to LGBTQIA+ issues.
