Jakob Ambrose is a hunky Australian actor with stage credits in The Addams Family, Cats and A Chorus Line. He now turns those acting chops to a different sort of production. We get the chance to chat with Jakob about his upcoming role in Trevor Ashley’s Moulin Scrooge.

DNA: These new images of yours are super sexy. How does that feel?

Jakob Ambrose: Well, I’m glad you think so. It’s always fun to work with Johnny Vision. He is a brilliant photographer.

You’re in Trevor Ashley’s Christmas panto, Moulin Scrooge – hopefully you won’t have a shirt on for most of the show!

Is that a question or a request?

It’s a question! How tiny is your Moulin Scrooge costume?

Let’s just say Angie White, our wonderful costume designer is doing all she can to make sure the audience has a lot to look at. And on that note, I have to get to the gym haha.

Is “eye-candy” going on your resume?

Haha, eye candy? I will leave that for the critics to decide. But hopefully they will appreciate the show.

Have you always been naturally buff or are we looking at a lot of hard work?

I was a skinny kid. I have trained for years with PT’s to find what type of exercise works for me. Now I’m pretty chill about it but I have figured out how I like to train and eat to feel good, strong and healthy.

You’ve had a varied career from The Addams Family to Cats and A Chorus Line… is Moulin Scrooge a dramatic stretch?

Thank you, I think Moulin Scrouge will be a challenge in terms of the pace in which we are putting it together. But it’s a great team so I know we will get it done and done well.

Are there any raunchy scenes, involving you, that we should know about in advance?

Haha I think it’s a Trevor Ashley show so it’s probably safe to expect it. But I’m not giving anything away.

What’s the sexiest costume you’ve ever worn?

I think the costume I have felt most sexy in was a white singlet, black pants and braces for Sweet Charity. That show is stylish and gritty and set in the ’60s. The costume felt sexy and carried power without having to reveal too much.

What’s been the silliest?

Hmmm, probably one of the camp and fun costumes in Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert designed by the incredible Tim Chappel.

We’re coming into Summer Down Under; talk us through your beach look. Boardies or speedos? Beach or pool? Nude beaching?

Depends on the mood. A beach is always a good time, and a pair of budgie smugglers always goes down well.

You look very serious. What makes you laugh?

A Trevor Ashley show.
