About

About DNA

DNA is an independently owned LGBTQIA+ Australian media company. We publish a monthly Print and Digital magazine distributed globally, publish daily to our website and social media platforms, and send three EDMs a week to our worldwide audience.

DNA is the best-selling print publication for the LGBTQIA+ community in Australia. Every month, you’ll find news features, celebrity profiles, pop culture reviews and sensational photography of some of the world’s sexiest models in our fashion stories.

DNA was launched in Australia in 2000 by Founding Editor, Andrew Creagh, and is available in Print worldwide in bookstores throughout Australia, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe and Taiwan, and in Digital format through the DNA app, DNA website, Pocketmags and Amazon Kindle.

What Does DNA Mean?

Many people ask why DNA is called DNA, and if it has anything to do with deoxyribonucleic acid? The answer is yes. Back in 2000, when we were launching the print magazine, scientists were still mapping the human genome and there was talk of the possibility of finding the so-called “gay gene”. We decided DNA was a great title for an LGBTQIA+ magazine because being queer is natural; it’s in your genetic makeup.

About DNA Models

Who are they? Where do they come from? How did they get so hot? These are FAQs here at DNA. The models who appear in the magazine, online and in our socials come from all over the world. Some are professional models. Some are regular people who photograph beautifully. We work with photographers around the world to bring you beautiful, genre-defying and thought-provoking images.

If you’d like to suggest a model for DNA, contact our Founding Editor, Andrew Creagh. Or, if you’re a professional photographer, you can submit your work online through our Photography Submissions page

Editorial Independence

DNA is an independently owned, LGTBQIA+ media company. Our editorial position is to support members of our community, and this editorial position is reflected in the news we choose to share, and how we present it. We publish news, opinion and entertainment of interest to our LGBTQIA+ audience in the NO͞OZ section of the DNA website. We do not separate news, entertainment and opinion when publishing.

Paid Partnerships

DNA is an independently owned business that earns income from advertising and marketing partnerships with companies such as swimwear and underwear brands, travel organisations, health and wellbeing companies, government agencies (such as health awareness campaigns), and other types of businesses.

We work with any company or enterprise who want to reach an LGBTQIA+ audience across any of our publishing platforms. We reserve the right to decline certain partnerships if, in our opinion, the activity of the business is detrimental to our community.

On DNA’s social media platforms we add #sponsored (and mark it as a Paid Partnership post) to all posts in which a current advertiser’s brand is mentioned or promoted, even if the post is not part of a contractual obligation.

On the DNA website, we list all posts that are either directly paid (Custom Content Posts) or indirect posts (such as linking to an advertiser’s website if a model is wearing that advertiser’s garment) in our Partners section, which is visible in our main menu.

From 14 October 2022, we have implemented the following for greater transparency:

  • #sponsored added to DNA website posts where an advertiser has paid for the post, known as a Custom Content Post;
  • #partner added to DNA website posts where a brand mentioned in the post is a current advertiser but did not pay for the specific post.

Other paid advertisements appear on the DNA website in prominent positions at the top of each page (leaderboard) and as square or rectangular ads. Advertisements also appear on our regular DNAnews eDMs, which you can subscribe to for free here.
