ThePack Turns Two And You’re Invited To Celebrate!


To mark ThePack’s birthday, David from DNA had a chat with the brand’s co-founders Thijs van Herten and Rheece Reynolds to find out more about this emerging swim and underwear label…

DNA: In few words, could you introduce your brand?

ThePack: We are an adventurous and trailblazing underwear, swimwear and party wear brand with a huge queer agenda.

Our brand name, ThePack, came about by our fascination with the inner workings of a wolf pack. Fierce and beautiful, wolves are renowned for taking care of their own. The inherent nature of wolves is to belong to something greater than themselves, that is what ThePack is all about.

We believe we’re more powerful together than apart. To us, ThePack embodies a newly energised and passionate force of LGBTQ+ people and allies who advocate for our community. We do so not only by educating, campaigning, and giving back to charitable organisations, but also by simply making you look (and feel) your fiercest self!  

DNA: Where do you get your inspiration from? 

ThePack: Usually, we start with a lot of visual research, this can range from art to music, our community and sometimes even politics. This research feeds the design process. With a touch of tongue-in-cheek humour, and a splash of naughty, we go on to create an overview of all the best ideas, to cover all aspects of your day: amazing wardrobe essentials with functional fabrics, fun prints, gender-bending lace bodysuits, harnesses or leather goods, we are continuously pushing the edges of what we produce. It’s the most fun part of the creation process as it allows us to envision how diverse ThePack, our community is yet celebrate our togetherness. There’s room for everyone.

DNA: How do you reckon ThePack has been received on an international scale?

ThePack: So well it is humbling. It’s always amazing to receive heartfelt emails, comments or messages from people who love the brand and what we stand for. So, in this regard, we couldn’t be prouder!

At the same time, today, for many gays, coming out of the closet still risks familial banishment, the loss of friendships, or even violence. In many places it’s still dangerous to be gay. There is so much more to be done! I wouldn’t say that we’re a complete success until we can assuredly declare that we live in a post-gay era. That said, there’s some great momentum with popular culture, providing platforms for visibility and dialogue, and we’re glad to continue to contribute to this with grace and glitter!

DNA: It’s your birthday month! How are you celebrating?
