Sydney Approves Free Wedding Venues For Gay Couples

Sydney City Council has approved free wedding venue hire for same-sex couples in city-owned parks, halls and community venues for the first 100 days after same-sex marriage is legalised.
This is a win for same-sex couples should marriage be legalised. However, the idea of celebrating equality with inequality doesn’t bode well for some.
The initiative was a motion by Labor’s Linda Scott, although approved by the Sydney City Council, it was met with debate as some within the council argued for the offer to be extended to all couples in the name of equality.
“This is about equality for every Australian before the law, and it’s just not right in my view to say that suddenly now we’ve won the battle and we’re more equal than the rest of the community,” Councillor Christine Forster told the ABC.
