Study Finds Parents Unequipped To Have ‘Birds And Bees’ Talk With Their LGBT Children

A study into parent’s attitude towards talking about sexual health with their lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) teens by the Northwestern University in Chicago has found that many face challenges and general discomfort when talking about sex with their children.

Parents were also found to feel unequipped to provide accurate advice about what constitutes as safe LGBTQ sexual practices.

The study published in Journal of Sexuality Research and Social Policy also revealed that many of the gay and bisexual male youth wanted to be closer to their parents and to be able to talk about sex and dating.
