Same-Sex Marriage: The Small Business Boom

A year after same-sex marriage was legalised in Australia, small businesses that cater to weddings and marriage celebrations are experiencing something of a boom, reports SBS, with nearly 5,000 LGBT couples tying the knot since the legislation was passed.
“The average cost of a wedding in Australia is $20,000. You do the math,” independent MP and Marriage Australia campaigner, Alex Greenwich told the Special Broadcasting Service today. “That’s a huge contribution for the small business sector,” he said
Not only are local LGBT couples marrying but, since the law change, Australia is now a desirable wedding location for international LGBT visitors.
Wedding photographers, celebrants and wedding venue business SBS spoke to reported an increase of approximately 20% in the last 12 months, and expected it to continue to increase in 2019.
