Tongan princess, the Honourable Frederica Tuita Filipe has taken to Twitter to speak out against Rugby player Israel Folau, who is Tongan by descent, and his latest anti-gay social media post.
“Obviously the way we represent our interpretation of God’s word & love is different,” she wrote in response to Folau’s post of an 11-minute sermon, from the late Christian evangelist David Wilkerson that blamed the devil for societies tolerance towards same-sex marriage.
“My silence was my attempt at respecting our different interpretations but I fear by doing that I’m encouraging the marginalisation of a group of people I love & serve as much as any other Tongan.
“You’ve worked hard to be in a position of leadership, I was born into mine. I’ve seen how forgiveness, love & inclusion bring people closer to God. I hope the trials you face give you the strength to open your heart & mind to differing views.”
My loved one’s & I are scrutinized & attacked almost daily. It is only w/ God’s love we survive the stones thrown by striving to represent & channel God’s love to ALL his children. Trust that God is in control & take a seat with us where the passengers belong *thread* https://t.co/zOVJrgGO54
