Great news for devotees of contemporary Australian art and men in uniform – painter Ross Watson has a new exhibition opening in Melbourne this weekend.
Homines Uniformis is a collection of recent paintings, photography and edition prints celebrating the uniformed man. Watson’s work, which has featured lifesavers, football players, celebrities and the occasional porn star often reinterprets themes from classic painting styles but with a modern twist.
With over 30 solo exhibitions worldwide since 1984, Watson’s work has attracted many admirers and can be seen in public galleries and private collections. Stephen Fry has described his work as “dazzlingly provocative and witty,” Sir Ian McKellen says it is “irresistible” and Michael Kirby has declared him brilliant.
