A 20-year-old man has been arrested in Minnesota for meeting with a 14-year-old boy he met on Grindr.
American news website KIMT3 reports that Efram Ciavarelli responded to a message from the teen who created a profile on the dating app then went to his residence and had sexual relations.
According to Minnesota law:
Age of consent for same-sex relations is 16. If the person under the age of consent is between 13 and 16 years old, they can legally consent to sex with someone that is less than 48 months (4 years) older than them.
Grindr’s Terms and Conditions state that all app users must be 18 years of age.
A Police report details that the pair were ‘interrupted by two younger juveniles who saw a strange vehicle in the driveway. The juveniles grabbed a knife, went downstairs and found a naked older male in the bedroom’.
Ciavarelli exited the home and was later arrested. He told authorities he thought the person he was meeting was over 16 and is facing charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, possession of pornographic work, and solicitation of a child through electronic means.
