DNA Review

by Graeme Aitken

Albertalli is the author behind Simon Vs The Homosapiens Agenda, the gay-themed young adult novel adapted into the hit Hollywood film Love, Simon.

Busy Becky has not only released a sequel of sorts this year to Simon (Leah On The Offbeat, which focuses on Simon’s best friend) but she has also teamed up with another high profile young adult author Adam Silvera (More Happy Than Not, They Both Die At The End) for this new book.

Teenagers Ben and Arthur encounter one another at a post office but fail to exchange contact information, an oversight they both regret. When they do manage to reconnect, everything seems full of promise until they discover how very different they are over a series of unsuccessful dates.

Ben is a Catholic Puerto Rican New Yorker trying to get over a recent break-up. He was actually at the post office to ship a box of belongings back to his ex-boyfriend.

Arthur is a white, Jewish, Broadway-loving, Southern boy who is only in New York for the summer.

Can these two overcome their differences and other obstacles fate throws in their path?
