New Zealand Ad Calling Out Casual Homophobia Becomes Viral Hit

Leave it to our brothers over the ditch to get things right… again! First, it was same-sex marriage now they’re tackling casual homophobia in a new advertising campaign aimed at drawing attention to the way the word ‘gay’ is often misused.

The clip starts with a frustrated farmer annoyed when meat pie falls to the ground by saying “Aw, gay”

“Actually, Nigel,” his friends corrects him. “That’s not gay at all.”

“It’s deeply disappointing, but it’s not gay”.

He then continues to say, “Look, bro, unless that pie is a man who loves another man, then it’s not gay.”

The ad was created by Auckland-based organisation Rainbow Youth and has been watched close to 800,000 times on Facebook.
