Ahead of releasing his next studio album ‘August’, gay Sydney pop singer, Daniel Turner has dropped his first single, ‘Living In Colour‘, teasing an all-new chill-out summer sound, with lyrics that the Central Coast artist describes as “bubblegum fun with energy to make you smile.”
DNA spoke with Daniel about ‘Living In Colour‘.
DNA: What inspired the song?
Daniel Turner: I wanted something different, something that represents the album and the new material to the fullest potential. This track, not in a self-absorbed way, just makes me smile every time I sing it, hum it, hear it. I am so use to releasing the balladeer moment so this just felt right for me at this point in my life.
DNA: Why is this song right for you at this point your my life?
D: I just have been releasing a lot of love-loss, ballad type tracks over the last few years. After a toxic relationship, I needed to be singing something happy. It was written for a special friend of mine as a Christmas present.
DNA: Who is the special friend? What colours do you dream because of him?
D: He just showed me during a dark and grey time, there actually was colour and kindness in the world that I thought was lost from my life.
DNA: Your new sound is very different to your last album?
D: When I went into this album, I wanted to create a sound that spoke to myself first. Origionally, I went into this alone, but it was when one of my long time friends, Andy Joel at Soul Merge Productions, and I started talking and discussing music that together we created the right sound I was looking for. After around 40 demos later, we created the album ‘August’.
DNA: Can we expect to hear more music like ‘Living In Colour‘?
D: Defiantly, with this single and album especially I have found my sound, my mood and my style. I have taken it back a lot of the older sounds in music, Picture Amy meets, the Beatles meets my own unique twist. I am so excited for this chapter to unfold, I truly am.
