Love Was In The Air Around Sydney On The Weekend

The weather may have been slightly overcast but the rainbow community shone brightly at Taylor Square in Sydney as 1970’s pop icon John Paul Young serenaded the crowd with his hit song Love Is In The Air.

The street party also featured performances by singer Ricki-Lee Coulter and electronic music duo Peking Duk, all with the message to encourage people to return their same-sex marriage postal survey.

A counter rally by No vote campaigners was staged at the Yes event with a mere 7 people in attendance. This was the second embarrassingly unsuccessfully public rally for the No team, with a similar turnout to their first rally.

“We’re going to ignore them because our campaign is all about uniting people around Australia’s values of fairness and equality,” Equality campaign organiser Alex Greenwich said to the Yes crowd.

A walk from Sydney’s Bondi Beach to Bronte, also held on Sunday, saw thousands turn up for the 3km walk in support of marriage equality.
