Israel Folau Suggests He Is Being Persecuted For His Anti-Gay Comment

After Australian Rugby player, Israel Folau was called out for an online homophobic comment posted to his Instagram last week, the fullback has tweeted in response to the backlash.

Posting a highlighted Bible passage, the verse says those who receive false persecution for speaking favourably of the Christian faith are blessed and are rewarded in heaven.

Folau was called out for saying that gay people were destined for hell “unless they repent of their sins and turn to God” in the post.

Rugby Australia, The Wallabies and sponsors quickly distanced themselves from his anti-gay comments. Major sponsor Qantas called his comments “very disappointing.”

Folau is set to meet with Rugby Australia bosses on Tuesday to discuss his conduct.
