First Australian Same-Sex Couple Wed

New South Wales couple Lauren Price and Amy Laker are officially the first same-sex couple to marry under the newly amended Australian Marriage Act.

The lesbian couple said ‘I do’ in a garden ceremony in the Sydney suburb of Camden on Saturday.

The normal 30-day‘ notice of intended marriage’ was wavered for the couple by Births, Deaths and Marriages after the couple explained that relatives were already on their way to Australia from Wales to attend their civil ceremony that was planned before the law changed.
