Discipline Of Russian Air Cadets For Twerking Video Inspires Wave Of Support

Last month a group of Russian air cadets were investigated after their twerking in underwear, bondage gear and their cadet peaked caps while deep-throating bananas, using power tools and provocatively dancing together video went viral.

The cadets from aviation institute in the city of Ulyanovsk has been officially reprimanded for participating in the video as it was deemed disrespectful to the honour and integrity of the institute and a slap in the face for the Russian government, who in 2013 passed a law banning gay “propaganda”.

At the time the head of the campus, Petr Timofeev told local publication 73online:

“I honestly do not want to comment on the disgusting behaviour of these cadets.

“To be honest, I myself need to sit and digest what I’ve seen.

“We are now dealing with this case; we are trying to evaluate everything inside and outside the school. Of course, all of this is very ugly.”

On January 18, local prosecutors ruled there were insufficient grounds to expel the cadets and ordered the institute only discipline them.

Since then, students at other Russian academic institutions and people from across the country expressed solidarity with the cadets by posting similar videos.
