This year for Mean Girls day, October 3, actor Jonathan Bennett, who played Aaron Samuels, and the cast of the iconic movie have teamed up to raise money to help the victims of the Las Vegas mass killing.
Their gofundme page aims to raise $300,000 to give to charity.
DNA spoke with openly gay actor Daniel Franzese, who played Damien in the movie, about the fundraising effort:
“Jonathan Bennett called with this great idea the day before Mean Girls day to create a gofundme page to help the victims of the Las Vegas shooting. We’re close to raising our goal amount of $300,000 and will donate it to the National Compassion Fund, an organisation that collects donations in situations like this, as it did for 911 and the Orlando tragedy.”
Franzese further explained to DNA that the National Compassion Fund “distribute money raised directly to the families of the victims.”
“We wanted to take a day where we traditionally get a lot of attention and turn that attention to a good cause.”
When DNA asked if international Mean Girls Day could become an annual event to raise money for those in need, Franzese explained:
“I think this is something that we’re going to look into, especially with the success of this. The movie, Mean Girls, is about people being mean to each other, so it has been interesting to turn that around and make Mean Girls day a day where everyone is a nice girl. So I think it could be something people can potentially look forward to next year.”
