Originally from Hawaii now living in Phoenix, US photographer JR Williams became an instant favourite with DNA readers because of the HUGE assets his models bought to his photoshoots, his elegant style of photography is highly regarded as he has developed a unique way of enhancing all the features of each of his male model’s individual physiques.
DNA invited JR to be the next photographer featured in our Q&A series.
DNA: How did you get into male physique photography?
JR Williams: A long time ago, a friend suggested I do a male physique calendar, so I did. It was published in Hawaii and I’ve never looked back.
DNA: What makes a good physique model?
JR: I think a good physique model has a balanced physique with visible abs that includes big legs. He must also have an easy-going personality yet be adrenaline junky.
DNA: What gear do you usually use for a shoot?
JR: I use a Canon camera since I switched from Nikon 9 years ago. I usually shoot in natural light, but I also like to mix it up with either a one or two strobes, usually with one as a rim/edge light.
DNA: What has been the most interesting experience to happen during a shoot?
JR: Once when on a shoot with a model over in Hawaii, we were on location at a remote oceanside rock platform, Two girls came up to us and started verbally admiring the model’s tight ass and massive bulge, he absolutely loved it!
DNA: It’s hard to ask a photographer which one photograph is his favourite, so which three are your favourite male physique photos that you’ve taken and why?
I like the one of Benji because he had a great physique and could pose naturally with no experience.
Chris DiPrete (@chrisdiprete.hawaii)
The next one of Chris is so sensual…his unique signature style is so clear with his head tilted. He has the most perfect nipples with very round pecs.
I also liked the look and physique of TJ, I very much like his presence and the masculine way he flexes, I really like well-done flexing shots and this is one of my favourites.
