Vote No Campaign Takes To The Skies

It’s almost like something out of The Wizard Of Oz, as the words ‘Vote No’ appeared in the skies over Sydney on Sunday morning.

This, the day after 1000 people took to the International Conference Centre at Darling Harbour on Saturday night to launch of the Vote ‘no’ campaign lead by conservative senator Cory Bernardi.

“We are under assault because we are on the right side of legal and moral history,” Bernardi told the launch.

“It is a sign of what is to come unless we are vigilant and can defeat this vote in the weeks ahead.”

This may not be the last of the ‘Vote No’ sky writing, there is an active gofundme campaign trying to raise money for an Australian east coast effort.

It will cost approx. $4,000 per message with a plan to do Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane at around $12,000 If only $4,000 is reached 1 message will be posted in Melbourne. The page explains, having raised just over two and a half thousand dollars in four days.

Sunday The Vote ‘yes’ campaign launched in Melbourne where openly gay comedian Magda Szubanski spoke urging all Australians to post their surveys as soon as possible.

“If you’re undecided, I hope with all my heart that you’ll vote yes because I believe in the institution of marriage that’s why I’m here.

“My parents were married for 58 years… I hope that I could have that same institution there to back me up and support me. I hope that you would want that for me too.

“I believe marriage equality will do nothing but strengthen marriage because we believe in long-term commitment, and those sort of beliefs, I think, are really what is the foundation of a strong society.”
