Sydney’s Bondi Beach Turns Rainbow In Support Of Same-Sex Marriage

Over the next fortnight, Sydney’s iconic Bondi beach area will host grassroots community organised rainbow events in support of the same-sex marriage ‘Yes’ vote campaign.

This Sunday, October 1 at 1pm, a helicopter will fly a 10-square-metre rainbow flag over the beach area after five active GoFundMe campaigns joined together to raise more than $20,000 from donations.

The following weekend, October 8, supporters of the ‘Yes’ vote campaign are encouraged to dress in colourful attire and walk from Bondi to Bronte Beach in a family-friendly event to send a powerful and positive message of community support for marriage equality.

Entertainment will take place on the coastal walk, with both Tamarama and Bronte Surf Lifesaving Clubs supporting the event and providing a BBQ at the conclusion at Bronte Beach.

With over 18 thousand members of the public showing their interest in attending online, the event currently expects 5-10 thousand on the day. Due to these large numbers, the start time is specifically staggered between 9am and 1pm to allow for a suitable flow of foot-traffic.

For more details about the flying of the rainbow flag and to donate, visit their gofundme page.

Information about the #TheRainbowWalk including event RSVP, can be found on their Facebook page.
