DNA Poll: Does The LGBTQ+ Community Need To Stop Infighting?

Date: 19-Jun-2017

World famous drag queen Lady Bunny has spoken out against political correctness and constant infighting within the LGBTQ+ community in the aftermath of the brown and black stripe Pride flag debate.

When polled 72% of DNA online readers said that the LGBTQ+ community should not add brown and black stripes to the Rainbow Flag to recognise people of colour.

Lady Bunny said on Facebook:

Let's cancel gay pride! Instead, let's just fight over the f#cking flag this year! Let's fight over the correct terms for everybody. Let's dismiss everyone who doesn't want to transition as a privileged cisgender. Let's spar over the name of our own damn community is it gay, LGBT, LGBTQ, LGBTQIA or did we bring back two spirits yet? I also saw a Y in there recently and have no idea what that even is.

Let's admit right now that we hate each other as a community, and that we're too ungrateful to celebrate the freedoms which we do have once a year. Let's compartmentalize ourselves into bears, twinks, butches, femmes, trans, tops, bottoms and those who claim they have no gender to further divide an already small community which does not have rights to equal housing and employment. And we're even barred from using the bathrooms of their choice in some states!

That's a surefire way to make sure we'll never get equal rights. Let's boil it down to the tiniest arguments which will mean nothing in six months or even six days. If we took the energy and vitriol we reserved to pounce on one flag variation in one city and turned it on those who seek to destroy our rights, we'd be running the world tomorrow and we'd all have gorgeous new hairstyles to boot.

And in our supreme jadedness of which I am also guilty, let's try and remember that there are young members of our own tribe who have gotten nothing but soul-destroying messages from their schoolmates, their churches and even from their families. Do they need our help? They need to see large groups of their own tribe in a festive environment so that they don't feel so alone. They need to see happy and proud gay, lesbian, transsexual and every color of the rainbow folk actually liking and supporting each other.

Or would youth even want to join this community if they saw the way we've been acting lately?

Do you agree with Lady Bunny? Let us know in this weeks DNA poll.

I always viewed the gay flags colors of the rainbow of including all races, since it is these colors that produce every color in the visible light spectrum. That includes black and brown, that are formed by the mixing of these colors. That's why the rainbow flag was selected in the firs place. But, if some of you are insisting that black and brown be included, why aren't you also insisting that white be included as well? And please don't give me any BS reasons that whites have been the color of privilege. I am white, but also a Jew (not just by religion, I'm actually and atheist, but my DNA analysis shows that I am 88% Ashkenazi Jew) and my group has been treated as anything but privileged throughout the millennia. I am just pointing this out to say that there has been discrimination among all races and ethnic groups and nobody has a monopoly on prejudice and suffering. So, let's just keep things as they are. The flag represents all of us.

Absolutely agree with Lady Bunny and daviddoc!
The infighting is so petty and sickening. It actually happens in practically all minority groups ethnic, religious, you name it, just because nobody wants to be on the bottom rung you see. That's why we keep making sub-(sub-sub-)groups, then throw shit at each other. It's either "I may be this but at least I'm not that", or "Woe, look at me look at me I suffer the most of us all". Meanwhile those who dislike us just sit back and laugh at us and let us destroy each other. So please, stop this infighting and let's unite for a change!

The RAINBOW FLAG has served our COMMUNITY well for years. The RAINBOW INCLUDES EVERYONE. So much so, even Jesse Jackson wanted to use the Rainbow flag, or likeness of it, for his Rainbow Party years ago. What is wrong with these people who want to keep breaking down OUR COMMUNITY. If we can't get our S- - -
together, how can we expect the main stream to accept us. I give Lady Bunny props for speaking her mind. Thank you once again, for being a leader in OUR COMMUNITY.
